There are a lot of factors that go into good SEO, so it’s easy to overlook some of them. Missing too many, however, could have a negative affect on your SEO. Here are a few SEO mistakes you should correct ASAP.
1. Keeping 404 Errors
We’ve all been there: you go to a specific URL only to find a 404 error page. Now what? These errors usually pop up if a page has been removed or the URL changed. This is frustrating for users, and can affect ecommerce sales, as well as negatively impact search rankings. Conduct a website audit to find and fix these errors–preferably weekly, or at least monthly.
2. Lack of voice optimization
Voice recognition software has gotten a lot more sophisticated in recent years, and more people are using voice search on their mobile devices. This means they are creating longer queries with conversational language. Start optimizing for voice search by implementing schema markup using structured data.
3. Outdated Google My Business details
Local SEO is vital for many organizations, such as a regional health system, a local dentist office, or a pharmacy. With local SEO, people who are nearby are more likely to find your business. Without accurate information, however, you could be harming your search results and, even worse, frustrating potential customers who can’t find the information they want.
Make sure your Google My Business listing has updated information, including contact information and business hours. Consider sharing photos on your listing, as well, so people know what they are looking for and what they can expect when visiting your location. Your website pages should also include location-based keywords.
